Aftercare

Adhesive Bandage Aftercare:

  • If an adhesive bandage was applied to your new tattoo immediately after your tattoo session, then please leave the bandage on for at least 24 hours.

  • Most clients can leave the adhesive bandage on for 3-5 days, but some can leave it on for up to a week. We ask that you please pay attention to your skin's tolerance to the adhesive and/or your own plasma.

  • The longer you can leave the adhesive bandage on, the better for healing.

  • Please note that the non-tattooed skin around or under your adhesive bandage may become irritated. Never fret! This is totally normal and won't impact the healing process of your tattoo. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.

  • The good news is that with an adhesive bandage, you can continue and wear clothing as normal so long as it's not rubbing or irritating the newly tattooed area. However, please do not submerge that area of your body in water. That means no swimming, hot tubs, or baths.

  • As much as we all love a bit of sunshine, please do not expose your tattoo to the sun for extended periods of time.

Removing the Adhesive Bandage:

  • Wash your hands before handling your fresh tattoo.

  • Pro tip: it's easiest to remove the adhesive bandage in the shower.

  • After 4-7 days you can gently pull the shield away from itself in the direction of hair growth while under warm running water. Pulling upward can be painful, once removed wash the tattoo with unscented soap.

  • Make sure the tattoo is completely dry by air drying or patting dry with a paper towel.

  • Gotta keep that puppy moisturized! Use either a tattoo-specific aftercare moisturizer or you can use an unscented lotion with no perfumes or dyes.

  • Apply a THIN  layer twice a day for the first week.

  • Make sure to keep your tattoo clean by washing between applying moisturizer. NO GERMS, PLEASE!

Plastic Wrap Aftercare:

  • The first and most important step is to make sure you wash your hands before handling your fresh tattoo.

  • Wait until you are home or in a clean place to remove the plastic wrap (about 2 hours).

  • Using your clean hands, wash your tattoo with NON-SCENTED (I prefer the Dial) soap. The process is easy: simply use your fingers to gently wash your tattoo in circular motions. Make sure to remove all excess plasma and blood.

  • Do NOT pick or scratch at your tattoo! We gotta keep that ink on your skin forever!

  • Let your squeaky clean tattoo air dry, or pat dry with a paper towel. No cloth/fiber towels!

  • If you have fur babies that hang out with you on your furniture or bedding, wrap your clean tattoo in plastic overnight. No fur in the tattoo!

  • The first thing you want to do in the morning is clean your tattoo as you did the day before.

  • Repeat these steps until fully healed (2-3 weeks)

Things to Keep In Mind:

  • Your tattoo will naturally seep all sorts of natural liquids like blood, plasma, and ink. This will gather under the adhesive bandage and look like a packet of soy sauce. Do not be alarmed by this, your ink is not coming out. If you are concerned, please contact us or send us a picture.

  • If the adhesive bandage gets a tear or rip that exposes your healing tattoo or shower water leaks inside, please discard the adhesive bandage and wash as instructed above.

  • If you experience any burning, itching, bumps, or discoloration, please remove the adhesive and wash the tattoo. Feel free to contact us and we will instruct you further.

DO NOT:

  • Use a washcloth, loofa or scrub on your new tattoo until it is fully healed.

  • Expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight.

  • Swim or soak in water.

  • Take advice from friends.

    DO:

  • Shower as usual.

  • Follow the aftercare instructions.

  • Wear loose, non-irritating clothing around your new tattoo.

  • Contact us with any questions or concerns.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, PLEASE reach out! We are happy to help!
